It only comes around every four years, which is cause enough for celebration — but this year the City will use this rarest of days to celebrate its 7th annual Founders' Day Spring Festival and raise funds for the Cape View Elementary P.T.O.!

Situated at the half-way point between the Super Bowl and National Chips + Dip Day, it only makes sense to do a community dip-off! If you think you make the #BESTDIPEVER — Prove it!

This competition is open to individuals, municipal service organizations, businesses and nonprofits. There are no residency requirements to participate.


Rules!

  1. Contestants must be registered in advance to participate, no drop-ins.

  2. All standard food safety practices must be adhered to during preparation and transport.

  3. Hot dips must be contained in a crock-pot (or like device) - bring an extension cord.

  4. Each contestant must make a minimum of four (4) quarts of dip.

  5. Each contestant must bring enough “dippables” for 64 samples. Choose something that best compliments your recipe!

  6. Contestant must be the one to serve the samples, this is not a self-serve tasting.

  7. Every entry must be homemade.

  8. Ingredient list must be displayed prominently at each entry station.

  9. Any style of dip is accepted: hot, cold, savory, dessert, salsa, vegan, etc.

  10. Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in disqualification.

  • Best Cheese Dip

  • Most Unique Dip

Judging & Tasting:

PEOPLE’S CHOICE!

  • 64 sample kits will be available for sale at $5/each

  • Each kit contains sample cups, napkins, a small foil tray and a judges ballot

  • Judges will go to each entry station to receive a 2 oz sample. 

  • When finished, they will turn in their ballot and volunteers/staff will calculate the votes.

  • The voting window ends at 12:00 p.m. and prizes will be awarded at 12:30 p.m.

Timeline:

9:45 - 10:00 a.m. Contestants arrive/set-up

10:30 a.m. Tasting begins

12:00 p.m. Voting ends  - public can still pay to taste if there are sample kits left

12:30 p.m. Prizes awarded

What do I need to bring?

  1. Dip entry (4 quarts minimum).

  2. Spoon to fill sample cups.

  3. Ingredient list to display (not the recipe, only ingredients).

  4. Dippables - Whatever best compliments your dip! Bring enough for 64 tasters.

  5. Lawn/folding chair (optional).

  6. Extension cord for crockpot (as needed).
