City of Cape Canaveral Library Board
A Special Dependent District of the City of Cape Canaveral
The Library provides access to books, both printed and audio, magazines, newspapers, computers and other items at no cost to residents within the District. The Library also sponsors programs such as story time and painting. The District boundaries are synonymous with the City Limits as displayed on this map. The District is governed by Florida Statutes 189 and 286 and City Code Sections 46-1 through 46-33.
The Library was established by Ordinance No. 11-66. Ordinance No. 11-66 was amended by Ord No.14-86. The appointment of Board Members is governed by City Code Section 2-171. The Library Board consists of Seven (7) members, who are appointed by the Cape Canaveral City Council to serve 3 year terms of office with term limits of 2 consecutive terms on the same board, unless no other qualified applicants seek appointment. Because the City of Cape Canaveral is financially accountable for the activities of the Cape Canaveral Free Public Library, the City Council has final approval over activities. The District’s relationship to the City is significant, its financial activities are reported on a blended basis as if it were part of the primary government as a major special revenue fund. The Library’s Fiscal Year (FY) is October 1 to September 30 of the following year. The Financial information for the District is included in the City of Cape Canaveral's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and the Budget located in the Document Center. Revenues are obtained from Ad Valorem Taxes and Impact Fees.
Regular Meeting Schedule
The Cape Canaveral Library Board is scheduled to meet the second Thursday at 2:00 p.m. once every three months. All meetings are held at the Cape Canaveral City Hall Council Chambers, 100 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act: all interested parties may attend these Public Meetings. The facility is accessible to the physically handicapped. Persons with disabilities needing assistance to participate in the proceedings should contact City Hall at (321) 868-1220 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
