The City of Cape Canaveral is comprised of several departments to serve the needs of our community. Each department collaborates with several external entities, including other City agencies, County Government and State agencies. Working as a collective team, these departments are committed to service and to the people of Cape Canaveral who make us what we are! Here are the departments and a brief description of what each department provides.
The Administrative/Financial Services Department provides a wide range of support services to other City departments. These services include budget coordination, financial reporting, payroll, fiscal grant administration, billing and accounts receivable, procurement, accounts payable, business licensing and cashiering, information technology and telecommunications.
Brevard County Sheriff's Office — Canaveral Precinct
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) — Canaveral Precinct provides law enforcement operations, administration, traffic enforcement, beach patrol, support services and Community Services.
Canaveral Fire Rescue
The Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department (CCVFD) provides fire protection, emergency services, prevention, education, and emergency management.
City Clerk's Office
The City Clerk's Office coordinates, assembles and disseminates City Council agenda packets, serves as Clerk to the City Council, records and maintains all City Council actions; prepares and distributes City Council meeting minutes, serves as Custodian of Records, facilitates access to such records, elections qualifying, coordinates municipal elections, coordinates conferences and workshops, advertises and receives bids and conducts bid openings.
City Manager's Office
The City Manager is appointed by the City Council to serve as the City's Chief Administrative Officer. The City Manager's Office coordinates the implementation of Council policies and programs, provides overall direction to departments in accordance with City Council’s established policies and direction, local ordinances, resolutions and state and federal laws, rules and regulations. City departments and employees are under the immediate supervision of department directors who are appointed by the City Manager.
The Community Development Department encourages and facilitates growth in the City of Cape Canaveral through the administration of planning, building, code enforcement and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
The Community Services Department combines Public Works Services and Community Engagement under one umbrella to better serve residents through customer service. Utility services, storm and wastewater, reclaimed water, maintenance service for all City streets and facilities. Community engagement maintains social media channels, manages website content, assists with special events, creates and promotes programs + meetings, and assists other departments with media/public relations.
Culture & Leisure Services
The Leisure Services Department manages City Parks and Facilities, provides a wide array of recreational activities, special events, exercise, youth and cultural programs.
The Economic Development Department facilitates the creation of new jobs, along with the development of quality retail and dining opportunities for the Community. Current and potential business owners, citizens, realtors are provided information and assistance to navigate looking for a place to live, work or start a business. Economic Development works closely with Community Development and Code Enforcement.
The Human Resources and Risk Management Department administers recruitment, selection, retention, training and development and benefits services for City departments and employees.
