The Brevard County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the City of Cape Canaveral began a “High Visibility Enforcement” program in September 2019. Funded by the Florida Department of Transportation and the University of North Florida, the program provided resources to address pedestrian and bicycle safety efforts in the City of Cape Canaveral and unincorporated Avon by the Sea communities.
The Sheriff’s Office and City of Cape Canaveral sought the program after recent statistics reflected that Brevard County is ranked among the top 20% for pedestrian and bicyclist injuries and fatalities in the State of Florida.
Deputies from the Cape Canaveral Precinct have used the program to increase specific patrol efforts aimed at targeting unsafe behaviors of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists by making hundreds of contacts with the public through education, awareness and enforcement activities to seek compliance while making our community safer.
